Autumn pumpkin pizza returns with sage and soft cheese
From mid-March through early May, Harbourstone Pizza brings back our autumn pumpkin pizza for a limited seasonal run. We roast pumpkin cubes until the edges caramelise, finish the pie with soft cheese and a light sage oil, and bake it on our usual stone-style base so the crust stays crisp while the topping stays tender. The special sits on the counter board at NZ$23 for a medium, and you can order it for dine-in, takeaway, or evening delivery inside our Mt Eden zone. If you prefer a milder herb note, ask the kitchen to keep the sage oil light when you place the order.
We choose pumpkin that holds its shape after roasting rather than collapsing into puree. Cubes are tossed with a little salt and olive oil, then rested so excess moisture does not soak the dough. Soft cheese goes on after the sauce so it melts into gentle pockets instead of covering the whole surface. Sage leaves are warmed in oil just until fragrant, then strained so the pizza gets flavour without bitter flecks. The goal is a pie that tastes of early Auckland autumn without feeling heavy after a weeknight meal.
Pair the pumpkin pizza with a side of rosemary garlic fries and a soft drink for a simple autumn plate that travels well for pickup on Dominion Road.
Availability depends on how much roasted pumpkin we prep each morning. When the board says the special is on, we usually have enough for lunch and dinner service the same day. Catering trays for small office lunches can be booked with at least forty-eight hours’ notice by emailing [email protected] or calling 09 630 3378. We list allergen notes for dairy and gluten on the printed menu; please tell staff about nut or other sensitivities when you order so we can guide you toward suitable sides. Prices and portion sizes may adjust if supplier costs change, and the counter board always shows the current figure before you pay.
How we build the pumpkin topping
Dough for every Harbourstone pizza rests overnight so it stretches evenly and browns with a light chew. Tomato sauce is simmered in small batches and cooled before service. For the seasonal special we skip heavy meat toppings and lean on vegetable sweetness instead. Pumpkin is cut to a consistent size so each slice gets a similar bite. Soft cheese is portioned by weight, then sage oil is brushed around the rim after the bake so the herb aroma stays fresh when the box opens. If you want extra cheese, we can add a measured scoop for a small surcharge listed on the board. Vegetarian guests often choose this pie alongside a green salad when we have leaves available.
Ordering, pickup, and delivery tips
For pickup, give us roughly fifteen to twenty minutes during quieter hours and a little longer on Friday evenings. Delivery runs between 5pm and 9pm on days we are open, with a NZ$30 minimum and a NZ$5 delivery fee inside the mapped streets around Dominion Road. You can check whether your address is covered by calling the shop before you order. Boxes are vented so steam does not soften the crust on the short ride home. If you are feeding a group, combine the pumpkin special with a classic Margherita or a loaded favourite from the regular Menu page so everyone has a choice without waiting for a second bake cycle.
We expect the autumn pumpkin run to pause once early May stock is gone. Follow News for the next seasonal board item, or join the Specials list in the footer for occasional hour and offer updates. We ordered the pumpkin pizza for Friday pickup and the sage oil smelled wonderful when we opened the box. The crust stayed crisp on the drive back to Mt Eden village. Next time we will add rosemary fries as you suggested in the article.
